When I was approached to do the rebranded Pride logos for Communities in Schools PA and Harrisburg Bike Share, I was undeniably giddy. As an ally for many years, I’ve seldom had the opportunity to use my graphic design knowledge to further the cause.

The rebranding done for Communities in Schools was a bit more restrictive, but because we own and operator the Harrisburg Bike Share, we had full creative control over our image. This logo went through many iterations, such as the more traditional striped approach, in addition an iteration which featured a striped bike badge.

The final design was the one shown above and the technique involved was relatively simple. I assembled a group of rainbow hued circles and clipped them inside the text. There’s something to be said of the traditional stripes, but I found this approach to be more visually interesting. The final look to be posted on our social media channel features a 90% or so gray background to really make the colors pop. This approach also informed our individual postings for Pride month.
